Utah MEA Holds Successful “Music on the Hill” Event

Posted by catherinah on Friday, March 7, 2014

On March 6, the Utah Music Educators Association held its first advocacy day, “Music on the Hill.” The event featured the American Fork High School Brass Ensemble, the Farmington Jr. Percussion Ensemble, two choir ensembles, and other performances. Speakers included UMEA President Sam Tsugawa, Utah Symphony CEO Melia Tourangeau, Utah House Majority Leader Brad Dee, and Composer Kurt Bestor, who was the keynote speaker.

“We want to get our message out: Music is an important part of the curriculum for our school children,” said Tsugawa. “Every child should have a chance to have a sequential music education by certified teachers throughout the state of Utah.”
